February at the Monte Carlo Opera

From 19 February, Jonas Kaufmann will play the title role in Andrea Chénier!

Andrea Chénier is one of the most captivating operas. It celebrates beauty in art and individual freedom. But for me, this opera is even more special: my father, who had an exceptional dramatic tenor voice, sang the role of Andrea Chénier when I was a child, and I cherish wonderful memories of it!

Today, Jonas Kaufmann is probably the best interpreter in this type of repertoire. His voice is incredibly beautiful, he is a great actor, and an extremely intelligent singer. I am delighted to welcome him for the first time in a staged production at the Monte Carlo Opera.

Alongside him we will hear an Italian soprano whom I greatly admire, Maria Agresta.

My favourite aria among so many wonders of this piece is "Come un bel dì di maggio".
